St. Barnabas
St. Barnabas Church, Bearwood
That is what we want to be doing in regard to the children and young people that we are working with in the church.
St.Barnabas Youth Work

Our Youth work is growing and our midweek work has moved over to the Bridge centre in the Community centre.

On Sunday mornings our EXCITE group meets in the church during the service. This is for ages 11 - 13

There are so many negative influences at work in the lives of
children and young people today and we are longing to share the good news of Jesus with as many of them as we can. To share the wonderful news that God has good plans and purposes for their lives, and that he is seeking only the best for them.
A Madagascar Theme Evening where all the activities were based around the film:-
Last March, we took 11 young people on and outdoor activity weekend at Barnabas Activity Centre in Kent. Activities included abseiling, Climbing, Archery and a low ropes obstacle course which was very muddy!!!
On Thursdays, from 8pm-10pm we run the ‘Eclipse Café’ – a drop-in facility for those in year 9/10+. The idea of the café is to provide a place for young people to come and ‘chill’, meet their mates and have a game of pool if they want to.
We have 2 other groups that provide social and spiritual input for Christian youth, Xcite – which is for school years 6-8/9 and meets at the church during the Sunday morning service. This last year we’ve been doing the whole bible from Genesis to Revelation and the young people have produced some fantastic work that is now on display in the church flat.

9@105 is a group serving young people from year 9 up that meets at 105 KJA on Sunday evenings – we worship, study the bible, discuss, pray and eat things!!

(20th, 23rd, 27th, 30th, 3rd Aug, 5th)

We will re-open after the summer on Monday 14th September.
Xtreme will be able to tap into 3 activities –

Fri 31st July, 7-9pm, Disco at the Bridge
Thurs 27th Aug, 4pm onwards we’ll be at the beach with a pic-nic tea and invite xtreme members and their families. It’s firework night too, so stick around!

Please note - When Xtreme returns on 18th September, we will be running a double session.
Years 7-9 will be from 7pm-8.30pm
Years 10 & 11 from 8.45pm-10.15pm
Years 10 & 11 are also welcome to Eclipse
Our Children’s Ministry at the moment is restricted to Sunday mornings. We have a team of adults who teach the children in a variety of ways using Scripture Union and other appropriate material
From January 2008 on the first Sunday of the month the children will be going to their groups, watching Christian D.v.d.s and other activities. On the middle 2 Sundays the children go to their groups for teaching. And on the 4th Sunday we have a 'Great Big God Session' with teaching, games and worship in the rooms in the community centre.
The children are looking at the bible from the beginning. From Genesis onwards. In April 2009 they have reached Moses.
The Bearwood Church Youth Project based at St Barnabas Church and ‘the Bridge’ includes 4 distinctive groups providing youth work opportunities for the youth of Bearwood.
Xtreme Youth Club
We have been meeting at the Bridge on Friday nights from 7.30pm-9pm. We are open to youth in school years 7-9. We have a basic youth set up of activities including table tennis, pool, playstations, coffee bar and table top games but we supplement these with an extra activity or theme each week. This past year, for instance, we have included the following:-

A messy games evening – It does what it says on the box!!

Teams compete in various tasks like catching baked beans and passing a slippery banana with their feet!
We cannot rely anymore on our pets to teach our children the Christian faith! Its our responsibility
