About us

We are a family-oriented community church in the heart of Bearwood and form part of the Canford Parish group of Churches alongside the Canford Parish Church and the Lantern Church in Merley.

We first opened our doors in 1982 as Bearwood Church; in 2005, the Bishop of Sherborne (Tim Thornton) dedicated the Church and renamed it St Barnabas.

We are an Evangelical and Charismatic Church. We believe in the authority of the Bible. We believe that the ‘Gifts of the Holy Spirit are available today and that God is moving powerfully in his Church. We learn how to walk and act, as Jesus did, to each other and the community we are trying to serve.

Sunday Services

We hold services every Sunday at 10:30am. We pride ourselves in offering a warm welcome to all and after each service provide refreshments and chance to catch up and talk with one another.

We have two service types: Prayer, Praise and Preach and Holy Communion.

All of our services, include, songs of worship, a talk from our latest series of teachings and time for prayer and healing ministry.

Our services are open to all people and all ages, with our Children’s ministries running during the main service.

Children’s & Youth Ministries

As a family church we provide our children’s & youth ministries during our main services. We have 4 age groups ranging from birth through to late teens, each group follows a similar curriculum following the Bible and it’s teachings. This offers the chance for children to learn and study God’s word no matter what the age. Each group includes Bible study, songs, art/craft, prayer and discussions.

    • Little Lambs: is our crèche available from birth to 2 years. (A parents or guardian must supervise their child).
    • Lion Cubs: the first of our main children’s ministry groups from the age of 2 until 5/6 years old.
    • Kids Church: this group is for children between the ages of 5/6 through to 11 years old.
    • Xcite: this group is for anyone over the age of 11.

Fellowship Groups

Men's Fellowship

Our men’s fellowship group meets on the first Tuesday of each month between 7 and 9 pm.

We discuss life in all its forms and look at how Jesus and the Bible can help us in our daily endeavours.

A suportive group open to all. Please contact the office if you wish to learn more.

Ladies Fellowship

Our ladies fellowship group meets on the second Monday of each month between 12 and 2 pm.

We enjoy a mix of bring & share lunches in Church and going out for lunch to a local place of interest.

We organise an activity/theme at the bring & share lunch to encourage Ladies to chat about themselves and for us to learn and understand more about each other- testimony, gifting, struggles.

All ladies are welcome. Please contact the office if you wish to learn more.

Song of the Month

Music speaks to us and nurtures our worship of God. Each month, we choose a song that encourages us. This month’s song is Amadeo (Still My God) by Ryan Stevenson.

The Power of Prayer

God is ready, willing and able to listen and answer our prayers, all the time.

Sometimes though, we might like someone to pray for us. Here at St Barnabas we have a team of people willing to do just that. It’s easy to request Prayer, just click the button below, fill in the Prayer request form and we will pray for/with you. It can be totally anonymous and your details will be kept safe and we will only contact you if you want us to.
